from MBT - "Bob was busy doing the programme, and Dennis and Billy Oust and I were in Billy Oust's garage trying to build equipment so we could put sound for 2 people in 20 rooms and GSR on all of them so we could keep track of what it is was going on with their bodies and that was a rush!"

has anyone tried GSR while doing binaural? I am curious to see if my brain is entraining or what.

I see some cheap biofeedback devices out there, but I am not sure if they are measuring the same thing or how it corresponds to binaural 4+- hrz

Kroeran, I was also interested in some actual feedback from meditation to see if I was getting into the right brain states. I got interested in this after watching a YouTube video of David Lynch talking about TM. In the video they have a student who has been practicing TM come up on stage and they hook him up to a machine which is displying brain activity on a big screen so that everyone can see the proof of the effects that meditation has on his brain waves.

I do not know very much about measuring body states. Just from poking around on the net, it looks like maybe an EEG machine is what you need to see the brain waves. Here is a Wikipedia entry on this. They even talk about which frequencies relate to which state - alpha, beta, zeta, etc.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electroenc ... e_patterns

Unfortunately, I could not find one that was very cheap although I did see a couple of discussion groups that were talking about how to build your own for $100 or something. A couple grand seemed too high a price for me to pay since I think that once I saw proof that I was getting into the expected brain states, I would not need to see that ever again. Of course it may be very interesting to see if the brain waves change when having interesting experiences (OOBE, etc).

I would be interested to know if other members are using any sort of feedback devices like this and if they think they are useful for entraining.

FWIW ...

There is a video on the net of Ken Wilber demonstrating different meditation techniques while hooked up to an portable EEG:

Here it is.

Guess this is a bit controversial, if my Google search to find that link is any indication.

I have searched the internet before looking for EEG's and GSR devices, but there appears to be non available to the general public.

Though this relatively cheap device seems to has potential for all kinds of stuff, too bad one can't program it to gather raw data.

Just found this, but have not dug into it yet ...

Emotiv EPOC EEG Headset Hacked

Quote:
An Interview with Cody Brocious

Cody Brocious has created Cody's Emokit project, an open source library for reading data directly from the Emotiv EPOC EEG headset. The Emotiv headset is a consumer EEG headset. In common slang, it's a brain-computer interface. When you buy an Emotiv headset, you are told only to use Emotiv software with the device. Now, Emokit shakes up the status quo.

If you take the Guidelines program at The Monroe Institute, you get to have one session in their lab where you listen to Hemi-Sync while taking various measurements. I believe GSR is one of them.

any hints on how to tell if you are entraining or not to 3.9 or whatever, without an eeg measurement

I am not feeling anything

That's great news, now I hope Emokit will be user friendly, and not only for programmers.

The little two-finger GSR meters are widely available. Try http://www.bio-medical.com/product_info.cfm?inventory__imodel=T2001&gclid=CJT5uKuhjqQCFUcz5wodfS49Hw.

It was a chance encounter with one of these devices when I was about 10 years old that began my interest in meditation/relaxation. Learning some measure of body control at that age, I think, opened up a realm of possibilities for me since it meant an early development of such skills, which I kept into adulthood, though I rarely used them at that age. The GSR meter provides a wonderful feedback loop and I have found it to help tremendously in the early stages of meditation. It's also fun to amaze your friends as you make the pitch rise and fall like a roller coaster.

Beyond measuring I think it is just experience. I can tell when my brain gets to 4hrz+- by the feeling.

I have been using a simple gnaural file with tails, but I am thinking of going back to trying my hemisync files

I see that you are a TMI graduate. do you know which wave or focus is getting into OBE potential/intention range?

No, I don't think I've ever seen where they equated a focus level with a level of Hz. I've had better luck making my own binaural meditations. And by luck I mean meditations with some feelings of vibrations - not full blown OBEs.
