I've been doing some thinking about movies lately, and some of them remind me about the spirituality/metaphysics concepts I've been reading about. It seems that lately, movies have portrayed bits and pieces of info that remind me of Metaphysics. For instance, the recent movie release, Adam Sandler's "Click", is an example. It's about a guy who is stressed out and ends up getting a remote control that controls his universe. In one part of the movie he ends up in a digital/computerized environment himself in which he sees a menu of options on a huge, life like size computer screen, and he can use the remote control to fast forward to future frames of his life, push "rewind" to go back to certain frames of his life, etc. It reminds me of the "computer control room" you speak of in your book. I remember reading such a concept in "Journey of Souls" in which people under Hypnosis reported memories of being in a "viewing room" in which they could review screens of their past lives and future lives and could fast forward, rewind, slow down, pause screens, etc. It's exciting to me that movies and other media are gradually starting to include bits and pieces of this info. Interesting!

TishAnna,

I have also noticed what you have observed. There seems to be a gradual opening (within a secular context) toward the general acceptance of a larger reality -- or at least a more complex reality with multiple views. This sort of thing does in some small way help to pry open minds to a larger set of possibilities — that can't be all bad even if the movies are sometimes goofy in their portrayal of the nature and mechanics of reality.

It might be a bit cliche, but the Matrix trilogy seems like another.

I recommend the new straight-to-dvd movie entitled "The Nines", starring Ryan Reynolds.

I watched the original Star Wars trilogy over a few days last week and was reminded of why I have always loved them. I was thinking that watching those movies over and over... and over when I was a little boy was a magnificent influence on my life.
They inspired me to pursue the spiritual journey I have continued throughout life.
As I was watching them I tried replacing the words "The Force" with Consciousness and most of the time the idea seemed to work nicely. Robert Monroe's concept of the m-field is also a near perfect match for the Force. The good or light side of the force are clearly associated with a reduction in entropy and the dark side clearly represents an increase in entrophy.
I love Yoda's words to Luke in the Empire Strikes Back. "Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter." Love it.

Do our intentions count while watching movies, tv or playing video games? Because its not real, can we be glad when the antagonist gets beaten, put in prison or even killed? I know some movies, tv and video games desensitize us. Is this desensitizing our entropy actually being raised?

I thought I would add an interesting 18 min video I saw at ted.com. Brain researche,r Jill Bolte Taylor, describes having a stroke that affects her left brain. Her right brain becomes dominant and she experience nirvana.

The first link wasn't working when I tried so I provided another link.

Lonnie,

The short answer is "yes", however, its not that simple, take a look at the "Physics" topic and the "Physics and Consciousness" thread. Scroll down about a foot and a discussion of "brain damage" and damage to the quality of consciousness takes place that will answer your question more thoroughly.

Thanks for the link -- it looks interesting.

I was very impressed with the TED talk by Jill Bolte Taylor. She is a very powerful speaker. The descriptions of the differences between the left and right hemishperes were amazing. It makes sense that integrating the two perspectives would be beneficial as described by Robert Monroe.
I was struck by the thought that the goal of the transcendental meditation described by Tom Campbell would be to quiet and still the left brain functions to access the functions of the right brain. Taylor described the left brain as the source of the monkey chatter we normally experience. I have experienced similar feelings of expansion and oneness while meditating and listening to the Hemi Sync CDs from the Monroe Institute.
Thanks for posting this.

Thank you Tom. I will print it out and read it.

Exactly my thoughts. She also mentions the left brain being involved with the past and future, while the right brain is in the present moment. Maybe focusing on the present moment also helps us to balance the left and right brain.

Could it be used for a point of reference? With out the point of reference of here and now we could be lost aimlessly in the future or the past. Never knowing what the past was, or the future is to be. Maybe?

Great link Lonnie. Makes me wonder how this effects those of us who are dyslexic.

Along with movies video games are getting the same attention. Played a game called Star Ocean where your character discovers he's in a virtual world that is about to be erased.

Lonnie,

A very interesting and dramatic video! Thanks for bringing that to my attention.

The point is to integrate and balance your consciousness to fully explore and master all the possibilities. While in PMR, as we lower our entropy by dropping fear and ego, we learn to utilize both hemispheres so that we become one whole, complete person, equally and simultaneous operative, by direction of our intent, in all reality frames.

I was looking for a thread to put this link to information about a movie I just heard of today, and bought a copy of for $2.50 at www.half.com today, A Scanner Darkly, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Scanner_ ... %28film%29, that seems like it will be pertinent. It has to do with streams of Consciousness, from what I can see.

This is a cool thread too.

Speaking of movies, I watched "What Dreams May come" with Robin Williams again last night and that still to this day is one of the most accurate deciptions of the afterlife I've seen yet. Yes, there are some overblown exaggerations just to help the plot, but it's closer to the accuracy of the near death experience and the afterlife than any other movie I've seen. What an amazing and beautiful movie....

If you haven't already seen it, you should check out Waking Life, I believe it was written by the same person/people. I watched that one before my philosophical "blossoming," and it definitely messed with my head a bit. :P
