I was recently asked about perception within NPMR and thought this might be interesting enough to others to post. It is a continuation of the discussion of preception begun in the "Point Consciousness" thread.

Most would say: "I see with my mind" or perhaps my "mind's eye", however that is just a figurative metaphor and can be a little misleading. One gets data -- consciousness to consciousness information transfer (one paragraph at a time) -- and then interprets that data in terms of physical senses (for example, visually) in such a way as to make it understandable and rational. Because you are (your present identity is) centered in PMR (you are launching your NPMR experience from PMR), the interpretation must be composed out of the experience data base contained within your PMR brain. Consequently your interpretation (and thus the experience you are aware of) is limited to something that you can translate into a communicable PMR language -- something you could tell/explain/describe to another PMR resident. So you are not really seeing, you are visualizing something that is a metaphor (the closest approximation your experience base can produce) to the content/significance/meaning of the data received. As your experience base grows your ability to interpret data accurately also grows -- developing one's level of awareness is just another bootstrapping process.

In my very limited experiences, this is what I experience:
Unless it is a lucid dream, it isn't visual in the normal sense. Usually, when I am meditating at night I will doze off and "come back" to being conscious, and I will get the distinct impression of being in my room but also being overlapped with some other scenario. Sometimes there are people around and sometimes not, but it is more of a "knowing" or "perceiving" of events happening than anything else.

Though my conscious mind would love a 3D Technicolor interaction, I have resigned myself to experience whatever comes, since it is better than nothing.

I have been thinking a lot about the actual moments preceding an NPMR experience. There is a definite shifting of attention from external inputs to internal process. Yes, I would call it using my mind's eye, but as you say, it's a metaphor. For me, there is also an intent, or desire to know something or do something. I ask a question, internally. Or, I form an intention to make something so. However, I do not focus intently on it, I "look aside" in some way. There may be a moment when this split in focus allows a genuine transfer of information to occur. Unfortunately, I am not an expert or particularly well practiced at this. But, now that I know what it feels like, perhaps I can do it more readily in the future. By the way, I think the information goes both ways, PMR to NPMR, then back to PMR. And I think that the back to PMR step can be directed to PMR entities other than yourself. It's much stranger than I ever originally thought.

Perception within any R seems pinned, then, to the rules 'embodied' or more formally 'ensituated', hence the routes for information to travel. There seems to be a set that is all subsets, not only consciousness, but an actual mathematic, albeit likely rapidly expanding, sum of all PMRs and distinct NPMRs. I heard in an interview recording an emphasis on finitude. It makes sense that there is an overarching set of rules, being namely (at least I would say) that evolution and conscious potential both structure reality. Structuring a PMR's rules for conscious expression routes would be a fun scientific, perhaps civic/recreational, experiment, game, or homesteading.

For instance, I love jumping, and looking at the sky. The potential to move I feel will expand as life on Earth evolves. The constraints are there, but the mechanisms enough I think are installed for our species in general to learn shapeshifting and learn to evade random/entropic effects of forces, like jumping into the sky and landing on the moon. Could do it in an 'astral body', like a dream, or make fun with this visceral anaolog morhpomachine and its digital supercomputer!!! I like perceiving new ways to shape this body and feel at home here.
