Finally overpopulation hits the media. Until recently, it’s like the only people that cared were scientists, environmentalists, the hungry, and handfuls of intellectuals.

It’s likely the general public will forget about the issue…

What a challenging issue though, almost depressing, and yet, there’s still hope.

It makes me happy to think that humanity could actually make it. It’s a tall order… highly unlikely. But just the opportunity for success and its consequences make me smile.

It makes me think of the most challenging puzzle games on an epic scale. Sort of like an Earth-sized game of a “multiplayer” Tetris. Everybody wins or we all lose. Individuals, economies, companies, peoples, and nations need to organize and cooperate in order to win. Old national hatreds, selfish business, and high entropy habits aren’t sustainable. They’re like a nice Tetris formation in one selfish little area while the rest of the playing field hits the fan. One nicely ordered Tetris area is a losing game when the rest of the playing field rises to the top and the whole thing falls apart.

It’s a tall order, I know. But just thinking about what success would look like… wow, I’m excited.

Thoughts?

I believe that the overpopulation problem is one that humans can not handle. Every high-culture throughout history has gone down. This one will as well, not because I say so, but because of the historical consistency. The overpopulation and lack of temperance is part of the problem.

You'll see the beginning of the end when some start to talk about colonizing other planets or that they just can't wait for the end to come soon enough, that's their mindset that talks. And also have a look at the future based movies, same thing.

Perhaps earth was colonized, I'm just saying.

Just because something has turned out one way over and over doesn't mean it always has to do so. All we need to do is everything differently like stop believing there is an end to start by letting religions fade away like a bad dream and get on with Evolving towards Love away from Fear.

Slorri,

Have you not noticed that NASA and other countries are hoping to find habitable planets already. They may not talk about it but their hope is to find some place not so crowded as in Close Encounters and shipping astronauts off with the aliens. What do you think the talk of 2012 and the end times means but a desire by those who feel that their "calling and acceptance is assured" into heaven. I can't remember what literary work that quote is from since my childhood but it was a claim of a dream by a very self righteous young man who proceeded to be the villain of the novel. Or was this what you were saying?

How a mix of female empowerment and steamy soap operas helped bring down Brazil’s fertility rate and stoke its vibrant economy.
