"Somewhere in this process you will come face-to-face with the sudden and shocking realization that you are completely crazy. Your mind is a shrieking, gibbering madhouse on wheels barreling pell-mell down the hill, utterly out of control and helpless. No problem. You are not crazier than you were yesterday. It has always been this way and you just never noticed. You are also no crazier than everybody else around you. The only real difference is that you have confronted the situation; they have not. So they still feel relatively comfortable. That does not mean that they are better off. Ignorance may be bliss, but it does not lead to liberation. So don't let this realization unsettle you. It is a milestone actually, a sign of real progress. The very fact that you have looked at the problem straight in the eye means that you are on your way up and out of it." -- Bhante Gunaratana

I LOVE this quote! Particularly because it describes the state of my mind so well! I put this in the Ego and Fear section because, well, I am not so sure that my mind is composed of much else at this point. I think it "shrieks" so loud all the time as a diversion, so I won't notice the fear underneath.

This quote is also nice and encouraging though. I would only disagree with the ignorance is bliss part. TC says that "contrary to popular belief, ignorance is not bliss, it is just ignorance."

I sure hope I am on my way up and out of it!

Nathan

Well, as G.I. Joe would always say, "Now you know, and knowing is half the battle."

That is one of the beauties of a work like MBT. It helps lay out a model for you to explore, to use as a tool for lowering your entropy, grabbing your bootstraps and making a concious effort to evolve in the right direction.

Another great quote: “The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.” - Lao Tzu

Truer words haven't been spoken. Getting that bad boy under control is no easy task either as you're constantly slipping back into that "shrieking" state. It takes constant vigilance but it's well worth it.

thank you for this quote..

i feel like awakening a sleeping mind is like unleashing a lion..

the process and path between living like a zombie and becoming a conscious being can be overwelming to say the least..

have the heart and courage of a warrior, its been my motto in facing the dark corners of my unkept mind..
