That the MBT-model explains that differently and that you somehow do not like it and even may perceive it as a threat is saying nothing about "who" is right.

The MBT-model is consistent - but there is the (famous?) concept of "wiggle room" or uncertainty even in the concept of plants.
I would not hang it on the "plants are not sentient" issue.
