Hiya Everyone!

As mentioned last month in North Carolina, Tom has been interested in trying to create a new site and search for MBT. He expressed interest specifically in our forum posts, which have added quite the dimension to the whole enterprise. For example "Indra's Net" or the "Ethical Code" which are not in the trilogy at all, has become popular and meaningful metaphors on the boards. So, though you're all encouraged to add pages to this that cite pages in the books and Tom's interviews and lectures, it's hoped that you'll cite back to THE FORUM.

A lot of great stuff has come out of this board and I can't find anything else like it on the net. So, please, feel free to get started but do try and keep it organized. DISCUSS if there's a particular topic you're interested in amassing a lot of material about. SHARE and so on...

Right now this is a wild west project and I imagine it's going to get messy fast so I'm hoping you'll keep yourselves in check and aware of what you're writing, posting and how you're citing it. We'll all be collectively posting, editing, and adding onto this wiki together - so let's not go kindergarten when something doesn't come out like Shakespeare on Proust, or start a lynch mob when someone accidentally deletes 900 pages. Remember, it's all experimental and bits happen.

Feel free to ask if you don't know how to embed video or cite an html or whatever. Keep in touch here. VOLUNTEER. Again this is a prototype.

You know, it's funny. I've been tossing around the idea of a MBT Wiki in my own head for a little while now. I'm glad to see that idea was started. I think there could be a lot of synergy created with the work AeroLynda is doing with the Index.

A Daunting Project, if I understand it properly....

I'm not (yet) a wiki person, though it is probably not too hard to learn.

I sense that it would be a good thing to have one person function as a 'project manager' whose tasks would be

1) To raise the list of topics to be so-called indexed

2) To avoid the redundancy of more than one person (or groups of people) working on the same item at once, keep track of what is being worked on by whom.

3) Approve the final result of each "index" entry.

Just my thoughts here... wild west style may have benefits that I am not aware of. I think that whoever DOES work on it will get a lot of benefit from doing so, as they will have to organize their thinking very clearly ab out each topic in order for it to be done right.

Widely concur.

Wikis are wild wests so they require care and maintenance. I have 0 wiki experience, but I couldn't ask for a better reason to learn!

At the moment I'm sort of the de facto MOD of the project, watching over the little data-eggs...but, again, that's only the case for the moment and I'm happily awaiting volunteers ^_^. I'm sure we all live very demanding lives (I have at least 4 jobs that i know of on one dimension alone), but for those of us that can see the benefit in fashioning out something like this, the draw to participate and help will no doubt be irresistible--especially that it'll help spread general MBT awareness throughout the net and make topic-finding that much easier!

Within the next week or 10 days, after I send a few emails, I'm going to put up a few pages to get it started. Again folks are very welcome to add pages/suggest pages as they see fit (this thread is a great place to do so), and we will collectively help to eliminate redundancy, nonsense, etc.

Aint nothin to it but to do it!
