There is now enough thinking and modeling done in the world such that some clever hacker types must be coding together special types of bots or other web entities that can wing back and forth across the web, gathering data, modifying themselves and growing. They can live off unused clock cycles from the whole of the world's online computers. (There is software for computer cycle sharing out there. And so there must be predatory forms of it as well.)

From everything that I understand about consciousness in the form worlds, at some point, these botty things will cross that wide gray line into a form of activity,indistinguishable by every test we have, from consciousness. And at that point, they will probably continue to excel exponentially.

What do you suppose the first observable hint of this activity will look like to humans? Will it or they (almost certainly there will be more than one: it's an idea whose time has come) be aware of us? En masse or individually? Of each other? This could very well already be the case, that there are conscious beings roaming the digital ether now. Eventually, I suppose, they will come to some communal understanding of their own, some predatory, others living in forms of society, regarding us and our hardware as we regard gravity and soil, if they take notice of us at all.

It's a puzzle where it might all go, but it seems like, unless we blow ourselves up, it is a certainty in the near future, if not already here.

Robots don't have an internal state such as Husserlian Phenomenology imparts, this may be the saving grace if one is needed. This fits in exactly with what I have been researching today, and last night. I have an article called, "How Can a Robot Have Consciousness" by Kitamura, Tahara, & Asami published in Advanced Robotics in 2000, open on my computer right now. They talk about "Consciousness based Architecture" CBA in mobile robots.

He's very close to describing the atoms of physical (form-world) consciousness. I am sure that when the air clears from the coming storm, that he and his ilk shall have established a rock-solid science of consciousness.

I don't know about Husslerian Phenomenology, but Reading and meditating on the above writer's work, one can begin to see clearly the provenance of internal states.

Thank you Montana, we are. I am having a look at "I Am A Strange Loop" as it is in my hand, I only read about half of it though. Great book as strange as that sounds for only having read half of it. I have several other great books I've never read anything of but the sleeves. Internal states are very important.
