Ted,
That's a good point. Although "lactose intolerance" is a actually not a problem, its normal. Humans are mammals, like cows and the young (both human an calf) produce an enzyme to digest milk (that is supposed to come from there mothers). When the human grow and eventually stops drinking his mother's milk his body naturally stops fabricating lactase, except if he is drinking the milk of other animals. The calf eventually gets over milk and stops bothering his mother and becomes "lactose intolerant". When I look at a cow I always ask myself; Who first saw a lactating cow and thought "I wonder how that tastes...".

For the bean gas problem,
Apparently by eating smaller legumes such as lentils, some people experience less digesting problems. You can also eat all kinds of soy products for the protein and then green leafy veggies for the minerals, vitamins and fibers.
For really good nutrition info on a healthy vegan diet I recommend the book "becoming vegan" by Brenda Davis and Vesanto Melina

LS,

Ted was correct about the Beano if your the only one eating the beans and can remember to dose with Beano, If you are making it for friends, family and having them all dose with Beano before the meal is a little weird for me so I use the backing soda, that way I don't have to remember to dose anyone. I don't normally remember things like dosing before a meal , when I get hungry I eat.

sebastien,

Well I'm going to give it a try. Thank you for your links. Will have to say that I don't think I'll ever be a true Vegan, more like a conscientious omnivore as someone coined the phrase in my readings. When watching the Inuit I don't get upset, even with all the blood. But when I watch the chicken farm you posted, the cruel exploitation, and miss treatment of them didn't set well. So I'll stop supporting such activities. When I read PETA, and other web sights, including for and against, I find that same political rumblings that tend to hinder real truth of the matter. When it came to diet, and toxins, one will say this, and another says that. It gets confusing as to what is true or not. That's what I hate about the political side of things, truth is often omitted, or covered up to maintain the view of politics. Whatever the truth may be I don't consider eating meat wrong, but do consider cruel exploitation to be, and act accordingly... no to cruel exploitation of animals.

Thanks for getting this post started. Think it will change some peoples views.

LS, you may want to look into probiotics.

Sprouted beans are easy to digest and do not create so much problems.

Thank you Shin,
I completely understand, its true there are different contradictory information coming from everywhere, and it does indicate how political this subject is.
When I search for info, I ask myself what these people at the source have in mind and what they get from doing what they do. When a study is payed by the dairy industry, I tend to frown my eyes if you know what I mean. And not all animal rights organisms are right either in my opinion.
I don't trust peta. They support the "happy meat" scam.

Seeker, enjoy your beans!

Bingo!!!!!!!!!

My biggest issue (or one of the biggest anyway) is "trust" I am to the point were I don't trust what anyone says and I just want to get the answers myself but I don't have the time or the knowledge to get all those answers, imagine all the studies I would have to actually do to get to the bottom of just what foods are good for the human body! and of course being morally right as well, this is one of the reasons why sometimes I wonder why in the heck I live in this planet, I just don't get it.
And we haven't talked about anything else like relationships etc, etc....

*sights....

Thanks Sebastien for the link. Really like how they went over all aspects, not just food. A bit speechless over the skinned fox still alive. Hope some good comes of their pain, and suffering.

The look on that racoon dog/Fox after being skinned alive haunts me EVERY time I see a fur coat.
I normally ask them with politeness "What a beautiful coat! How on earth did you manage to get all the blood out....?" Most of them just stand there stupid looking not comprehending what i have said as i storm off to rant and rave and cry at the cruelty of it all.

Yesterday I attained my goal of not eating any meat for a full month. Prior to that I had been following Tom's "opportunistic scavenger" vegetarian model, only eating the meat that my wife was going to throw away. She has been helpful this past month making sure not to waste any meat as I tried to not eat any meat this month.

I am going to continue to follow this lifestyle for a while at least, with my only weakness being chicken wings. I have loved them ever since I was a kid, so maybe I will get them once a month or something or maybe not, we will see how that goes. As for the rest of the time, opportunistic scavenger it is if I am going to eat meat at all.

Lumpy,

You guys really ought to learn how and get used to using the search function for these forums when you want to know something. If you click on search at the top of the index page, you will see two boxes in which to enter search criteria. In the first, enter eat and +meat. This makes sure that the reference, barring accident of contents, refers to eating meat. Then for the author, enter twcjr, which is Tom's name on the BB. From what we know by convention, this would mean that Tom is named after his father and that his middle name begins with W. Tom is short for Thomas but we (I any way) don't know what the W stands for.

This will give you a list of 6 references that will quickly answer your question. I could just tell you the answer but the effort is worth it as a learning exercise.

Ted,

Guess we'll find out eventually, haha. :)
