Hi everyone, i'm new to the forum and haven't been able to find this topic mentioned, though I'm sure someone has asked this.

If we are to improve our consciousnesses, why doesn't AUM copy the code of successful low-entropy consciousnesses to make more of them quickly, instead of starting from scratch so often? Copying code is an easy computer trick... For instance, why not clone Jesus or Ghandi a few million times while deleting the Hitlers and Stalins?

Hi Jumbles:

I asked the same question. Read this thread: http://www.my-big-toe.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=3930&p=12715

Because free will is part of the process of Evolution of Consciousness, and copies of copies isn't as useful as doing the work, in my opinion. Hi Jumbles, and welcome to Tom's MBT discussion board.
Love to you and yours,
Bette

If we are all data in simulations, and there exist unactualized pasts and futures, that implies some realities where someone indistinguishable from me is being tortured mercilessly or is gravely injured. I would shudder to see a being so close to myself suffering. Of course I don't like to see suffering in anyone, but imagining seeing 'myself' suffering is a horrible thought.

Also, I recently put my beloved cat "Soap" to sleep and miss her greatly. I hope to see her in the afterlife, but how would I recognize her as the one I knew as opposed to an imposter data clone? Does she have a unique RWW address? Am I 'merely' attached to a bit pattern?

And I would like to think of myself as an eternal indestructible soul, but apparently AUM sometimes destroys his/her/its creations. Given an infinite amount of time, I would eventually become one of the obliterated ones.

MBT has some implications I'm not 100% comfortable with yet.

Why do you require some horrible experience to be happening to "you?"

Jumbles,

Unactualized data bases are more on the order of what if you had taken the alternate route when given a choice. Why speculate about being tortured. Not likely unless you were in a situation where you just missed being tortured already. Were you planning to degenerate so completely and behave so badly over such a long time that you would be irredeemable and that you would find your IUOC erased and reused? Did you not notice that it was described as very rare?

Ted

Loving the sound of my own typing...I cannot resist sticking my nose in this as well - also to confirm my understanding and seek constructive criticism.

I think this was the meat of Tom's answer from Clau's skillful digging

Tom - "However, there would be little point in doing so since the original is already available to everything that exists that is capable of generating an interpretation of it."

my take on this is that the system feeds on novelty that extends beyond the "existing art" (patent lingo) of experience. You become particularly valuable to the system if you encounter a unique set of circumstances and react to it in a unique way, and perhaps failing in a unique way is as valuable as succeeding in a unique way [i.e. Hitler is an intriguing datapoint].

copying an IOUC would be as valuable as copying a web url. One is enough...two would provide no benefit and cause confusion.

I am not sure novelty can be consciously generated by the FWAU, though when I witness some of the apparently crazy things people do...I wonder. [i.e. start an anti-religion based on Science]

another way of stating this, the QoC of Jesus et al is copied over and not lost - the IUOC starts the next life with its spiritual essence and accomplishments of the last cycle intact, with PMR memory wiped clean (well, mostly) so that the luggage of the last lifetime does not pollute the opportunity of the following cycle.

Juggles - "Also, I recently put my beloved cat "Soap" to sleep and miss her greatly. I hope to see her in the afterlife, but how would I recognize her as the one I knew as opposed to an imposter data clone? Does she have a unique RWW address? Am I 'merely' attached to a bit pattern?"

when I was a kid I thought adulthood would be really great...I would have money to buy as much chocolate as I wanted. You grow up, and it turns out you are interested in very different things. "You" may not be interested in Soap the virtual avatar, who may be interacted with (but the interaction is not recorded nor available in the database due to the lack of free will once its IOUC is detached) you may get to meet Soap's IOUC, which would be much more interesting. (I think that's how it works). I am waiting for clarification of how social life works between jobs (without an FWAU).

I wonder however if you have a touch of the cup is One Percent Empty Syndrome (OPES), which is a variation of the cup is half empty syndrome. Its a mind that has its risk detection module sensitivity setting turned up too high, leading to an overstimulation of your fear response, causing a reduction of your decision space.

Reality is uncomfortable at times. We don't get to decide what reality is. We can only try to detect what is true.

Why does "not religion" have to equate with "anti-religion?" That ain't right, man.

yeah, I considered non, anti, and realise the problem

I kinda thought anti in the anti-matter way, not the negative way (setting aside the separate of Jesus from the church that followed him)

that being said, I think MBTOE is actually anti-(organized) religion, at least western religion, and I guess I am TOE-apostate regarding the role of organized Judeo-Christianity in western evolution, though Tom may be taking his scientismist position on this for tactical purposes.

As we are at the point now where NPMR truth can be modelled and experienced directly, the vehicle/medium of religious instinct (which I believe is coded into our DNA), can be discarded for those who are ready, which is the target group of MBTOE.

It seems that if good things can happen to me in alternate realities, bad things can too. I could easily cope with seeing 'myself' a millionaire, but not so easily as a paraplegic. Perhaps torture is a little far-out, but I have been in car accidents several times and in this reality survived unscathed. In other realities, maybe 'I' am in constant pain.

I am not planning to misbehave to the point of being deleted--but in the Drunkard's Walk a drunk making random left steps or right steps from a light pole (the origin) eventually gets to -1000 miles left (deletion cutoff) if the simulation lasts an infinite amount of time.

I may develop different tastes upon dying--as a kid I loved Pixie Sticks (a tart candy) but now I never eat them--but it seems to trivialize love to suggest that I'll outgrow my affection for Soap upon death. I thought a loving consciousness was the point of evolution.

Your attachment to Soap doesn't have anything to do with "being" Love in the big picture, in my opinion.

Affection is not equal to Attachment, Bette, unless you as a Master in Psychology can explain why both are equal.

Can you prove it?

I am happy you finally got your degree, I always wanted you to get it, now you can teach us more about Psychology.

You still haven't answered my question. How do you come up with your conclusions? Attachment=affection. May be that's why you always "attach" "Love" at the end of your posts.

Note aside: I was bored, it's nice to have mutual learning, interacting with you Bette. I am your challenge, and you are mine.

Hasta la vista, baby,

Clau
