HI everybody!

I watched with a lot of interest TOm s lectures on youtube,I m an european graduate student in physics with a major interest in conciousness ,and practicing for a few years already the very old chinese art of chi kung.
I d like to ask Tom if possible about his job,I noticed from the info I got that it d be with the building defence systems.
why is that? why am I asking this? becouse in my oppinion the american army it s not really the REd Cross these days,and has never been since the second world war. For me it s just not very logical and belivable to speak about such important issues and work for this instituition.(in the past)
I said such important issues becouse I thought that what you said in your lecture was fascinating( I can t wait to read your book),I do think that you are a genuine person,and if you do have time please help me out with my max 10% doubts I have towards you.It s becouse I ve seen a lot of people who aren t 100% straight and beliavable,nobody is just really out of the system anymore,just totally truthfull, a lot of people work for the co. called SPIRITUALITY.
I ll be happy to see your answer and eventually to apologize for my doubt and my question.

The Facts:

I do not work for the Army, I work for NASA

Some years ago I worked in strategic missile defense [mostly in sensor technology development (e.g., radars) and in systems risk/vulnerability analysis). Strategic missile defense has no purpose other than to defend civilian population by destroying incoming nuclear warheads. Defensive missile technology does not apply to offensive missile systems.

30 years ago I worked for army technical intelligence -- we studied foreign military electronic systems technology to see what we could learn but primarily to find ways to counter foreign offensive systems.

I am not a pacifist -- being able to defend one's self is sometimes necessary. One might argue that having a good defense may encourage the use of offence. That can be true but is not necessarily true -- it depends entirely on the quality of the leadership. The quality of leadership comes and goes but over the last 30 years it has been generally responsible - with some notable exceptions. Over the last 30 years, especially in strategic missile defense, having some minimal defense of civilian population has not emboldened offense.

I can see how this question can come from time to time. It seems like we think spirituality and army don't mix, however that is not the case as many people involved in the Army as you know Tom also spend time in spiritual matters.

I never had you pegged for one of those doomsday mad scientist types with the death rays and half-reanimated corpses to carry out the more diabolical and deadly research. I mean, no one respects a mad scientist with zombie underlings then me, but that's the fear of the death ray talking.

I used to build Fish-eye, HARM and Sidewinder missiles, worked in RF telemetry before and after that, with purchasing electronic components for R&D weapons following at the end of my first "career." I live in a town supported by a weapons center too with lots of fighter planes flying around. My next career will be different with education and social change focus.
