Remaining detached helps a lot; turning off internal dialog and such. Forcing it usually turns the experience into a self-generated stream, so for me, letting go seems to do the trick most of the time. Becoming "attached" to some portion of the stream by focusing too narrowly will often br...

I had some difficulty, initially, with the theta frequency binaural beats and found that starting in alpha and moving lower each session got me to the point where lower frequencies worked well for me. By this time, getting to alpha on my own became easier as I became familiar with the alpha state; s...

Thanks Jeff, it was a pleasure meeting you, too. We can get ourselves into all sorts of trouble with our interpretations of the incoming data. As Sainbury said, living gracefully with uncertainty means living without fear. Fear is one of the reasons that we put so much effort into forcing interpreta...

There is very much a chicken/egg aspect to the answer that is coming to mind, but as a data point, I have noticed that as I get older, it becomes easier.

It seems that Tom's model demands uncertainty as one price to pay for growth if I understand correctly.
The real illusion is certainty.

Before you start, make sure you tell yourself that you are going to stay for some time in that state.

Have you ever tried staring at a candle? Sometimes, having something to hold your attention can be helpful until you can get more prcatice.

Ramon,

Thanks for posting the pictures - I didn't realize how short I looked in person...

Ted,

Glad to hear about the improvements. I hope there are more.

Believe it or not, I really enjoy driving. I like to see what's out there in the world and just be some place I've never been before. Though I only hit heavy fog, I actually enjoy the adversity of weather, most of the time. There's a we're-all-in-this-together feeling that I enjoy having when someth...

Ah well. We start, individually and collectively, from where we are, and move on as best as we can. That is the bottom line with the matter. That is always how it is anyway, eh? I suppose it is. Give me a bit of time and I could write a paper on how high entropy is the cause of the world's ills and...

Perhaps... Appeals to emotion, misleading claims, false dilemmas, etc...are marketing people worse than other people? What about intent? The virtual learning lab? Free will? I don't like commercials and I tend to ignore them and consider them only with the most careful skepticism; perhaps I am in th...

Isn't being "influenced" by advertising a certain sign of lack of free will? Couldn't our free will be exercised and improved by exposure to advertising and its temptations? That's an interesting point, but infuence doesn't necessarily reduce free will: This is part of the reason why I di...
