Talked about doing this in another thread, and didn't really get too much feedback on it, therefore I've assumed that this won't be a big deal. I think it'd be cool to have this thread here, since it will add another dimension to our understanding of each other. So here it is, anyone who is brave enough or willing- please feel free to share your poetry, in whatever form it manifests itself. Let's not let this thread be one for intellectualizing, but for balancing that well lubricated left brain with a less tangible, less conceptual/concrete/fragmented form of knowingness and knowledge. Doesn't have to "makes sense" here people, to anyone but you- just do what feels right.

Here's one of mine from a few years back, before coming across Seth and MBT and all that good stuff.

-The Last Moment (of my Life) by Cole Randall-

In the moments before
the last breath that I breathe,
Will I know that I go
with no future to see?

Will I pray, will I cry-
Will the light in my eye-
Will it dim, will I swim-
in the blood that I lie?

Will I go in my sleep,
Will it come in a dream,
Would the life that I've lived
be as vain as it seems?

Will I fight it or freeze,
Will I struggle and pleade,
Will the kindness inside me
be all that I need?

Will they gather around me,
Will I say something great,
Will I whisper, "I Love You,"
Will I die without hate?

Should I hope for a heaven,
Or wait for a hell,
If I needed more time-
How much soul could I sell?

Will this all be a dream,
From which I will wake,
Will my death be a door
to a life that I make?

Will my soul find the solice,
That it needs to be free,
Will I cease to exist,
Will my maker be pleased?

In the moments before,
The last breath that I breathe,
I will know... I will know...
And I shall cease to believe!

-Cole

Here's one of mine.

CONSTANT FRIEND

I don't care what you say, I've known you before and always
There aren't as many persons here as it seems
We're just a couple of actors playing a big scene
But I most look forward to that pub we all love
Where we eat drink and be merry or Mary and listen to the stars above

Times get tough down here sometimes
But that's just means we need to unwind
I don't take it too seriously now
We're gonna get to the curtain call somehow

I will always call you my constant friend
And see you in other faces around
But when I find the actor whose playing those clowns
I get so excited and my heart beat starts
There's only eight or nine of us playing these parts
But the faces confuse me sometimes
I think you're gonna know me even though you're in disguise
Then I make a fool out of myself when I try to paint the town
We're stuck with each other over the long ass haul to the end
And I will always call you my constant friend

Don't you get the feeling it's all been done before
Well, hey man, do I really have to say anymore?
The plot thickens as the walls come crumbling down
Maybe the Mayan Calendar is gonna pound us good
But I think we worked it out so we'd be understood

Can you hold out for 2012
Not everyone else will wanna dwell here
But the positive energy cannot be denied
But hey man, please don't get yourself crucified
Someday we'll be back in Athens at the pub we've come to know and love
I can't think of anyone I'd rather drink with
When we get back to that place the dumb asses think is high above.

Nice one beau! very expressive. Here's another one of mine:

The Sea by Cole Randall

What a strange sensation,
For to feel and be aware,
To gaze beyond all limitation,
Rendering us bare.

To call upon the all existing-
Stream through which we wind,
Is now a greater task inflicting-
Weight upon my mind.

Stagnation seems unsettling,
For finite brains who bare-
Little vague resemblance
To the Void from which they heir.

A thousand generations watched-
The sun move through the sky,
And with little hesitation were
they moved by such a lie.

To all who see, and truly listen-
Your mind shall set you free,
The drops of glowing light shall glisten...
As they fall into the Sea.

Very nice Cole, here's one:

Call It Something Else

Let the church have marriage if it means so much to them
Maybe it was their idea to begin with
A union of the heart let no one put asunder
They've had there way to reap, and pillage and plunder
But surely they can hear the thunder now
Keep your mind wide open and the day is yours
There's a better way to be
Than down on all fours
Don't need to give them the satisfaction
The day will come when they will grant you a retraction

Let them keep their marriage bed
Call it something else instead
Don't let them suck you into that sticky web
Today maybe they have the numbers
But it's everybody's right to be encumbered
Don't let a shallow mind exact upon your slumbers
We are all what we are, we just need to pick the lock
Between the tumblers and the pins
To see what amazing things between us can begin
When the peephole get charmed out of their skins
That will be a means to an end to their ignoble reason

The seasons change for no rhyme of reason
We're just resunning ourselves in the powers
Can't lay claim to what doesn't work anyway
Leave it to the April showers to make you stay
Please don't leave the planet just yet
There's something in store and I'm willing to bet
It's got your name on it if you live with no regret
Great God almighty in all your wisdom
Take us down the up road where the real people are living
Do we ever really need to be insincere
When the neighbors come to life we can have no fear
Every man woman and child can live in good cheer
Cause we took a stand for the better way of life
We said hell no to your struggles and strife

People the world over can get it together now
We can find our own way in this mess somehow
Don't need you to regulate our lives
We've got something to make us live on the inside
Live Life and be Merried, get it? Just Merry someone

Wallace Stevens was a poet from early 20th century America. His poem, Sunday Morning is about setting aside the belief system of 'christianity'. It is probably too long for this board, so I will just put the seventh stanza of the eight stanza poem here. It depicts what life might be like without the encumberance of 'that old catastrophe in Palestine' :

Supple and turbulent, a ring of men
Shall chant in orgy on a summer morn
Their boisterous devotion to the sun,
Not as a god, but as a god might be,
Naked among them, like a savage source.
Their chant shall be a chant of paradise,
Out of their blood, returning to the sky;
And in their chant shall enter, voice by voice,
The windy lake wherein their lord delights,
The trees, like seraphim, and echoing hills,
That choir among themselves long afterward.
They shall know well the heavenly fellowship
Of men that perish and of summer morn.
And whence they came and whither they shall go
The dew upon their feet shall manifest.

You can read the whole peom if you like, here:

Not sure why I'm posting this one but I like it as poetry but I've had a tough time putting it to music and Montana's poem made me think of it somehow.

Temple Pillars
Long ago and far away we would gather together to celebrate the day
We'd all belong to the tremendous circle of life, a circle within a circle so wide
And the circles would give us all our strength
And everything about us had a meaning that seemed to come from afar
We were forever careening with the planets and searching the skies for the stars

Just like temple pillars reaching for the sky
The kingdom was fruitful and oh so alive
Remember temple pillars reaching for the sky
Till the ceiling came down
And the reaching was denied

Nowadays our dwellings rarely have the magic of the ages they once held
But lord have mercy how we have learned how to weld
The space and time of living becomes an obsession
And as our numbers grow we chase the empty promise of some outer plateau
Now we build the buildings but we know they're just for show

There's no practical majesty in what goes up anymore
The innocence is lost on the pop culture minding the store

Remember temple pillars reaching for the sky
The kingdom was fruitful and oh so alive
Remember temple pillars reaching for the sky
Till the ceiling came down
and the reaching was denied

We could find our way back to the circles, we could find a way to keep the mystery alive
If only the people would open up their minds, give those golden olden ways a try
I have seen the ides of the next step in time
Concrete, Glass, and Steel and granite are no longer a luxury anymore
We've gone completely nuts with the bolts and the prefabricated two by fours

Can't we simply come back to the circles once more and stop judging all the sinning
Give ourselves all the freedom we had once upon a time in the beginning
This is more than some dogmatic sense of pride we're winning
The times could surely one day change and by the hand of almighty nature bring us back around
But we just keep on recreating the very thing that's already haunting this town

Here's one more for you

NEARLY 50!

You keep on calling me to come out and play
I always said "Hey man, maybe but just not today"
But guys I got my bearings straight
I'm thinking today's the big fat day
Y'all made it happen in very special way

All my life I was waiting to find my place
I got stuck in outer space
Now I wanna be part of your rat race
Tell me if I need to learn the bass
Then color me gone without a fucking trace

My heart's alive and my head still screwed on tight
Now all I wanna do is rock n roll all night
I may be nearly 50, but my hands still work
And what is 50 anyway!!
Let's get this party started cause I was such a jerk

My hands are alive and my heart sets the pace
She's beating so much faster
I'm back inside my body and I belong to the human race
Give me a chance to show you my style
I ripped off my Guru and it's driving me wild

My mojo's pumping like tomorrow will come
Will, there'll always be someone to tell me I'm dumb
I'll keep scheming these rhymes til our party drops dead
Maybe all the pleasure comes from deep in my head
Not no problems that can't be solved with a good run

(Guitar Solo)

My heart's alive and my head still screwed on tight
Now all I wanna do is rock n roll all night
I may be nearly 50, but my hands still work
50's a bunch Bull Shit, buddy
Let's get this party started cause I've got some quirks

We'll take it to the limit before the cows come home
Play these songs like lightning and drink the punch I bought you all night long
You've heard me say I'm too old for this shit
But when we crank it up man I'm never wanna quit
Okay then maybe one last song to grease the tone

Man alive tonight I feel like I might be made out of stone
Can I be invincible? Could you please play along?
Being up here's not at all like I thought it would be
Have I blinded you again? Is it too dark to see ME?
Music and words will put a on hurting on the E disease

Let's be O for the world to see
Let's be A for the world to see
Let's be E cause that's where I need to be

Music makes me eternal and the art of my life in is your books
But don't listen to interpretation of someone else when you look
Let what you know be your guide and then we can really slide
Into a new way of living that was meant to be all along
All I'm asking is for you to sing my silly little song

Nice stuff Beau,

History by Cole Randall

Like a train,
History moves swiftly...
It carries every man and beast from one end
of the track,
To the other.
And every soul is subject to her whim...
The passenger may depart,
but the train continues moving-
With or without us.
I see sparks on the track,
And great hills on the horizon...
but I am restricted by the window
through which I see another world...
The mountain is not scared to reach its destination-
For it is already there.
The passenger sees the trees pass,
But seldom realizes that they remain,
Long after the train has passed.
The coal inside the engine cannot last forever,
And as the smoke departs I see,
That my station is emerging,
To take the train away from me.

You are the Cole inside the engine in my opinion, Buddy. And you do last forever even though it may not quite fit with MBT.

I just wrote this one about our dogs

El Dee and Callie

We have two hairy children that run this household
They are so beautiful and bold
El Dee and Callie make things happen round here
They teach me about unconditional love like no one ever dared

Everyday I love you more little dogs
You are the love that I've waited for
I'll feed you and take you out when you need to go
What would I do without either one of you

I know Heaven has a place for such special creatures
You smell so sweet El Dee and Callie needs a haircut but we'll get the money you'll see

El Dee and Callie always love me no matter what kind of day I've had
They don't judge my disorders and they don't bark orders much too bad

Why must we ever grow old, who was the asshole who told us so.
Let me take off this make up and costume so you can see I'm immortal with the rest of you
El Dee and Callie are immortal and they just know it cause it comes from the soul
They don't need some huge advance in their decision space to know we never really leave this place.

El Dee and Callie bring happiness to this home
We are not alone
Alone is a great big lie
Callie and El Dee
Finally made me see

The future's bright for anyone who takes the time to be
In the moment
That's what my dogs are they live in the moment
D O G or G O D not much difference in the name
I like to think that all these creatures live in same damn plane

Did you hear about the agnostic, dyslexic, insomniac?

She sat up all night pondering the existence of DOG.

Beautiful poems Beau, and Cole. The poem Montana linked to was also beautiful. Beau Temple Pillars was especially good, I thought/think. I think poems allow a view into a person, and to share them is very special, thank you all.
Love
Bette

Hi Edge,
After each of my sharing of my experiences (experiments) for that sharp person to see one way of looking at those type experiences, at the end each time (and when receiving loving thoughts) I wanted to put, "it's just data", but I didn't want to stir up shit right then. This also means I thought of you at those times since this is your signature, so hi. I have also been running into your web presence elsewhere other than in links supplied here, to let you know.
Love to you and yours,
Bette

Here's some more poetic data :) - Wrote this one while I was taking a walk around my late-great uncles property,... or rather, property he had been renting where he lived in a very small home (literally a shack almost). We were pretty close before he turned off his bodily connection to PMR.

You're Living or You're Dying by Cole Randall

Took a walk beside your wooden home today...
The grass has grown, and someone's yet
to rake the fallen leaves away.

There's a stillness here I can detect-
You know which one I mean...
The older paint is chipping but
the grass is staying green.

A tree has fallen- made its way,
So long across the trail...
I look around and couldn't say,
If time will see me fail.

The pond sits awefully still it seems,
Such silence without trying...
And What I've learned is gently termed,
"You're living or you're dying."

-Cole
