I'm thinking about attending one of Tom's future MBT workshops. I know that Tom often sets aside part of his workshops for practical exercises. Does it matter if your understanding of MBT is purely at an intellectual level? I mean, I've spent some time practising meditation and experimenting with binaural beats, but have yet to achieve anything with it (zero, zip, zilch, nada). I know this kind of thing requires dedication and persistence, but I've yet to taste the pudding, as Tom would say.

No it won't matter. There will be people with more and less understanding than you. Tom gears it for everyone.
