I had a large variety of dreams last night and good dream recall in most..

One bad dream again where the brakes on my truck did not want to function. I even tried the emergency brake and I still ended up nudging into a woman's car while stopped on a downhill at a traffic light..

I had one good dream of famous golfers Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer ( who is now deceased..)..

Usually, this kinda dream recall is triggered because my cat ( Meshugga ) , wakes me up often at nights.. I notice my dream recall is best if I dont have the opportunity to fall into a deep sleep for any length of time..

I also have dreams,a few times a year, where the brakes in my car either don't work at all, or don't work very well . It used to terrify me, now it just annoys me.

How strongly do you all feel emotions in your dreams? After chidlhood, It seems like all my dreams are devoid of emotion. My self in those dreams seems to be more apathetic than me in my normal PMR conscious state, even in situations that would be terrible.

I have also had the car brake dream, I think more than once.

I wonder how common that dream is now that you all bring it up. It may be some sort of standardized test.

I really thought this was a good question ..
Because I think my answer is double edged :)

For sure I have felt greater joy listening to my favorite song, or eating my favorite foods in a dream ..

But on the other hand some of the negative emotions, like fear or those involving death or near death seem a bit "watered down " as compared to what I might expect if those situations occur in PMR. For instance if you read my anecdote above about my feelings in my shared dream experience with the murder/ execution .. this was certainly the case,.

I could conjecture some low confidence reasons for these things but i prefer to wait for further postings on t
he subject ( if any)....

I concur. I think it’s because we tend to disassociate from the things we find unpleasant. We only engage to the degree we feel necessary to get what we need or want from the experience. It’s not just negative emotion or experience though, we can also disassociate from positive emotions and experience if we have negative beliefs about their cause.

I log my dreams daily. My perspective, while in a dream, is both as the actor and the observer. The actor interacts with emotion. The observer accumulates the experience. The accumulated experience is what I log. As I continue to practice consciousness transmutation, the dreams become more of an alternate reality that I phase into each night. I liken it to having a PMR life and a NPMR life.

I've had the no brakes one at least four or five times in total, but I usually start out trying to drive the car, sometimes being around middle school age. During the last one, I recall only feeling confusion, and because of this, everything outside of the car sort of started to blur. My assumption so far is that it relates to feeling out of control of the direction of my life, but if others are having them without that being the case, not sure that fits after all.

Ive noticed of late, i have been having more partial loss of function to the brakes, rather than fully lost all brakes

But it may have started off years ago with no brakes at all

I haven't had a 'no breaks' car dream in a long time. And I hope I never have another!

Linda,

do you feel that we no longer have the "no Brakes dreams" now,
could be a sign of spiritual growth or a step in the correct direction ?

I never could figure out why I had them. I had then even when I was very content with my life. The last one I had was a much tamer version than the previous ones.

thanks Linda,

there is the more simple explanation that-

Mechanical things dont function or dont function correctly in dreams idea..

assuming you agree that "brakes" can be considered to be mechanical in nature ?

I think the brake failure always represents fear for me. And I always panicked when the brakes failed as I was driving the car. I think the dreams faded as I became more annoyed than afraid.
