Desirable Standards for Posting on this Bulletin Board

Post by Ted Vollers »

While enforcing some rigid format for posting on this bulletin board is undesirable, there could be a substantial improvement in the standards exhibited by board members in terms of certain types of posting. This would improve the experience of members reading posts here and also of benefit to the still larger number of those who are visitors to the board. Some of these suggestions will be described below in this thread. This is part of a general upgrading of standards for this board. We welcome further additions to these ideas. If you have a suggested standard to add here or just a comment, please PM an administrator or moderator.

The posting of ideas and web sites from elsewhere to be brought to the attention of board members for discussion is common practice here and welcome. It is desirable to be made aware of things which might be outside of our usual sphere of interests. The following is a suggested format as a standard of quality for such posts in order for the greatest benefit to be made available in such posting. Things which are worth doing are worth doing well.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It is desirable to explain here at the beginning of the post just why you think this is something worth while for board members to look at, as opposed to just posting the link with some kind of minimal comment such as 'enjoy'. You should include here an explanation of your degree of interest in the subject if this is some kind of passion of yours. Or perhaps it is just something which you ran across recently. Explain why you see it as something that should be of interest or as pertinent to or related to MBT. The idea being that you are not springing a surprise upon us but giving us good reason to be interested or to know in advance that we already know a lot on this subject and have seen enough. This much of this recommendation should be considered to be a necessity.
The following title section should also be considered as a necessity, although not necessarily including all of these formal parts and details:
Place the title of the article here for clarity. followed by the name of the author, the date and the general web site origin.
Place the actual link here and use the URL button Using the URL button makes sure that the URL is complete and not mangled by the automatic processes of the board which are intended to deal with internal links.
If it is appropriate to put a quotation from the article to indicate why it should particularly be of interest, it would go here. This lets us know the kind of actual material covered and the quality of the writing.
Then follow up commentary might be appropriate.
Followed by your signature here.
It is suggested that you send congratulations to a poster on the quality of a post in a PM as opposed to in a separate post saying such things as:
Great post.
I enjoyed that.
Thanks XXXX.
And similar posts. They really just add to the board clutter and the purpose can be fulfilled in a PM. If you will read the Welcome thread, you will find there Tom Campbell's statement regarding this kind of material.
The posting of videos should be done with the same standards as indicated with the posting of external links above.
Begin with a description of the video and explanation of why it is pertinent to Tom Campbell's board and to those interested in MBT. If it is not sufficiently of interest and value to you to do so, why should we have to start looking at it to see that we are not interested. Give us some idea to begin with. Provide the name of the source of the Video and some idea of their credentials or history if it is an individual. If it is not worth this trouble of providing this information to you to do so, why should it be worth our trouble to watch some long video which you can't be bothered to describe, explain and justify to us.
And will automatically include the direct link here below the embedded video.
If you see some basis for continuing discussion of the video, make it here. Don't just leave us with a link. The intent is to provide information with some value to members here.
