There is an article on the New Age movement on Wikipedia which is a decent introduction. I have quoted from this article below and have left the reference numbers in, to show that there were such references, although not including the references here. You might consider reading this article here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Age
Another source summarizes the New Age Movement with this description from http://www.rapidnet.com/~jbeard/bdm/Cults/newage.htm as follows:The New Age movement is a Western spiritual movement that developed in the second half of the 20th century. Its central precepts have been described as "drawing on both Eastern and Western spiritual and metaphysical traditions and infusing them with influences from self-help and motivational psychology, holistic health, parapsychology, consciousness research and quantum physics". The term New Age refers to the coming astrological Age of Aquarius.
The New Age aims to create "a spirituality without borders or confining dogmas" that is inclusive and pluralistic. It holds to "a holistic worldview", emphasising that the Mind, Body, and Spirit are interrelated and that there is a form of monism and unity throughout the universe. It attempts to create "a worldview that includes both science and spirituality" and embraces a number of forms of mainstream science as well as other forms of science that are considered fringe.
While there is some degree of overlap with New Age concepts with concepts included in MBT or talked about by Tom Campbell, they are by no means congruent and the similarity often superficial only. There is much discussed within New Age thinking that is not included in what we are about here. There are also things that are included here and by Tom Campbell which are not at all considered within New Age thinking. Specifically, MBT is intended to be a Theory Of Everything with the purpose of creating a paradigm shift to Consciousness as the base of Reality as we experience it. This includes the nature of Consciousness and the metaphysics of its functioning in some detail. Derived not in the sense of just modern science, but in terms of the metaphysics of our reality which New Age thought has no pretense of providing beyond possible hints. Specifically, here we describe this as a Virtual Reality and include explicit explanations of how that VR is hosted within a larger system which contains this and a vast number of other VRs of the same type and also of the type that are experienced as non physical. This TOE provides a basis upon which many cutting edge aspects of modern science can be explained. Ultimately this TOE arises from the methods and metaphors of modern science and pure mathematics applied to the personal explorations within the Consciousness System by Tom Campbell. It can also explain the nature of the concepts of older terminologies such as reference to our 'higher self' and spirit bodies. Tom Campbell very much takes the approach of science and provides an explicit description of these concepts. In summary, the term "New Age" is an informal term derived from astrology, which indicates that this earth, if not the cosmos, is on the verge of an evolutionary transition from the Piscean Age (rationality) to the Aquarian Age of spirituality, bliss, and harmony of all things. Even though it is undergoing a significant revival, the "New Age" is hardly new. In fact, it is very old. A better term would be the "Old Occult."
Some come here wishing to extensively post on some New Age related concepts and in a sense, move this board towards the general New Age direction and inclusion and discussion of these other ideas. This includes subjects relating to such ideas as ancient astronauts, the seeding of earth with human precursors by visiting aliens from elsewhere or other such alien contact, conspiracy theories of various types and more from what are essentially 'Occult' and 'Gnostic' traditions. We are not opposed to being made aware of things which are not in our present awareness. But many of these things have been discussed before and further discussion, starting all over again in new threads, is not needed or wanted. Search out those existing threads and if you truly have new material that is not already covered, post it there rather than start anew. This kind of posting is contrary to the purpose of this board which is and will remain centered upon Tom Campbell's writings and teachings. Specifically Tom Campbell has already included explanations here of many of these ideas in terms of MBT. The world of the Internet is a 'big place' and there are centers devoted to these ideas elsewhere and where their continued discussion is welcome. But please keep in mind that that place is not here.
