"When clinical psychologist Tom Zinser started working with multiple personality patients, he had no way of anticipating where his work would ultimately lead.
Using hypnosis, Zinser learned how to communicate directly with the sub-personalities that, he eventually learned, exist even in healthy individuals. Oftentimes this therapeutic technique would lead to healing and psychological integration. But other times, it would lead to confusing or frustrating results. While he made substantial progress, Zinser also reached a professional impasse.
The breakthrough came when Zinser was approached by Katharine Mackey, a secretary in his office, who channeled a spirit named Gerod through automatic writing. Gerod, it seemed, was interested in communicating with the psychologist.
Zinser approached the suggestion of “meeting” Gerod with a cautious but curious mind, only to be astonished by the clinically useful information that Gerod provided. Gerod claimed the ability to see directly into the souls of Zinser’s clients, and provided very specific guidance on how to help each one. Equally important, Gerod sketched out a map of the human soul, its structure, and destiny, far wider than models provided by clinical psychology.
What started out as an experiment turned into an amazing fourteen-year collaboration with more than 650 sessions between Gerod and Dr. Zinser. These sessions enabled Zinser to breach the impasse, guiding his clients to integration at a much deeper, spiritual level. The collaboration also lead the author to a wider understanding of the soul’s structure and journey, explained in this book.
Soul-Centered Healing is not a book about channeling, but about the importance of seeing our own psyche in a larger context. This compelling, mind-opening account — sure to be controversial — reveals the landscape of a larger psychic and spiritual reality, of which we are a part. "

I listened to one podcast and watched another. Brian Weiss, MD in Many Masters, Many Lives documents similar experiences.
The way I understand Dr. Zinser's education with Gerod: we as humans are consciousness and conscious personalities with free will in a waking state. We as souls are consciousness and we (FWAU) project into the brain of the human body (there is no indication in his explanation that we as humans are and in a virtual reality). Our conscious self is here to make choices. Our FWAU learns through the choices made by the conscious personality. It becomes conscious and "awakens" to what it is through the conscious personality. Once it awakens it no longer incarnates in this PMR. Its past lives facilitate the awakening (This indicates that it is the avatar playing the game whereas in MBT it is the FWAU playing the game).
Zinser discovered what he defined as sub-personalities with free will from the past and in the present integrated within our multi-consciousness (MBT refers to us as multi-dimensional beings). These past lives move to our subconscious (MBT moves them to the actualized past data base).
This reality was created by the "divine" (Zinser leaves the definition open to interpretation) where light and dark (ignorance) have an even playing field. The FWAU then "comes in" and forgets who it is as it is "moving into darkness". The light brings in knowledge. The darkness creates the choices (MBT uses entropy as the metaphor for the light and darkness). He further defines humans as "stepped down light energy". He defines evil separately. Evil is a consciousness FWAU, with knowledge, that violates another FWAU's free choice.
The higher self (OVERSOUL/IUOC) is consciousness and the connection to the "Divine" (all that is). It does not make choices it helps. It brings light love energy to the conscious personality. It may carry actions on its own that are part of what it is but there are limits to what it can do (this is a contrast to MBT whereas the IUOC is in control). It is our true-self, god-self and creates the FWAU at the time of incarnation.
He refers to another consciousness that is the "protective part of the mind". Conscious is aware only in the present. It was created to protect self and body from threats (this is in contrast to MBT).
He defines the unconscious (subconscious) as unidentified realms (data streams) or soul level reality (NPMR). When we cross over from death it is like walking through a door. There is nothing frightening about it. We "re-awaken" to our soul level consciousness.
He refers to the "quickening" as being when the recognition of self as soul or being of light and knowledge come together in the awareness of the conscious personality. The "awareness" takes place in this PMR data stream rather than the "soul level consciousness" (data stream).
