Quantum physics says goodbye to reality

Apr 20, 2007

Some physicists are uncomfortable with the idea that all individual quantum events are innately random. This is why many have proposed more complete theories, which suggest that events are at least partially governed by extra "hidden variables". Now physicists from Austria claim to have performed an experiment that rules out a broad class of hidden-variables theories that focus on realism -- giving the uneasy consequence that reality does not exist when we are not observing it (Nature 446 871).

Good post Bette.

Here is something else of interest on the science front. http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2012/ ... llularity/

This research shows that no special conditions are necessary to create multicellular entities. Simply environmental pressure in that direction has produced multicellular yeast in 60 days with true specialization of cell function and an organism that reproduces as multicellular and that 'grows up' and will not reproduce until it is mature.

It is suggested, and sounds like, the method will have advantages easily applied to production of ethanol or other such production using single celled organisms as presently employed.

Here's a related article that references "Quantum Physics says Goodbye to Reality":
