I've been experimenting with a thought experiment recently that ties into a lot of MBT. Its that human beings as we are now are really just very advanced mechanical robots, most of the time. Our brain is a computer. The way we think is almost entirely programmed. The way we acquire these programs are both hereditary and environmental. What unconsciously puts these programs into place is fear. Think of how phobias come about, a person has a bad experience so is programmed to always be afraid in similar outcomes. Our ego is basically just a mixture of these programs into what we perceive to be a whole, or a 'self.' I think I saw Bruce Lipton mention that we act without conscious intent 95%+ of the time, meaning we revert to default subconscious programming. There are a lot of interesting books and articles about this. The idea 'forgive them for they do not know what they do' begins to hold more weight here.

In my opinion, negative software can be overcome by remaining wilfully conscious, or awake. Not letting your mind be your master but letting it be your servant and using it only when necessary. One by one these programs start to lose their hold. We start to realise we are more than what our programming dictates. Meditation is practice remaining conscious, of eventually deprogramming. Perhaps a more modern alternative term for the Buddha would be 'the deprogrammed one.' Just some food for thought.

Some definitions to improve communication within MBT discussions
15. Virtual reality (VR) is a computed reality structure defined by data that represents the possibilities and constraints of an interactive multiplayer “game” (environment, rules, and individual characteristics and abilities of the game elements and pieces). VRs are constructs of data. Board game analogy: The VR represents the game board (environment), game rules of interaction, and the game pieces (avatars) that the players play. An individuated unit of Consciousness (IUOC) represents the individual player. “Our VR” and sometimes “the VR” refers to the virtual reality that we call our physical universe (physical matter reality -- PMR) – i.e., the VR in which our “physical” body is a virtual character or game piece called an avatar. Our VR is an evolving simulation (according to the initial conditions and rule-set) that defines the constraints placed on the data-streams being sent to each IUOC player. Consciousness, in the form of the Larger Consciousness system (LCS), is the creator (but not the programmer – there is no programmer) of the VR, and of the IUOC (which is a part of the LCS). Consciousness is an evolving, aware entity with will and intent that emerged (evolved) within a digital information system. Because evolution is an open ended, dynamic process of continuous change, any evolving entity must continue to evolve (to lower its entropy) or de-evolve (increase its entropy – eventually self-destructing or dying) within the constraints of its environment. Thus, positive evolution becomes the most fundamental purpose of all entities (survive and live or disintegrate and die). Conscious entities can be directly aware of that purpose and purposely make choices that actualize it – thus optimizing the Consciousness evolution process for such an entity.

Rudimentary awareness of this versus that (1 vs. 0) eventually evolves into the LCS, which, in turn, evolves (instead of programs) VRs and IUOCs. IUOCs eventually facilitate and accelerate their opportunities for positive evolution by becoming the free-will awareness, will, and intent, (Consciousness) of a virtual avatar in a multi-player, interactive, evolving virtual reality originally defined by initial-conditions and a rule-set.

Consciousness (the LCS) is a digital information system (contains data, content, memory, processing ability, and the purpose to continue evolving). IUOCs are subsets of Consciousness. The LCS creates rules, processes and protocols to define how data may be exchanged between IUOCs as they function within VRs. These rules, processes and protocols (rule-set) define a virtual reality (VR) that enables interaction between IUOCs and thus creates individual IUOC choice (free will) and experience. In order for an IUOC to express free will, gain experience, and evolve it must be a “player” in a VR. Players receive data streams from the VR server (LCS) that enable them to interpret their interaction with the VR environment and other players.

The rule-set defines the nature of the VR. [The rule-set may be minimal, simple, and unrestrictive (loose) or complex and profoundly constraining (tight). Tight rule-sets are used to evolve a virtual reality like our PMR. A somewhat looser rule-set may define a VR like the one we visit in our dreams, in out of body experiences (OBEs), lucid dreams, or upon our “death” in the PMR VR. Loosen the rule-set more and one may experience a VR that is somewhat like being in a telepathically connected chat room with one or many others.] In order to have experience and express free will choice, an IUOC must be within a virtual reality that contains something to interact with (like other IUOCs or an “external” environment defined by VR data). The LCS or an IUOC may define its own set of rules thus create a VR of its own. Thus VRs may be nested one within another.

Only thing that is fundamentally real within the bounds of our knowing is Consciousness. All else is virtual. All experiential reality frames are virtual. There is no fundamental experiential reality frame – all have their own server within the LCS and a specific purpose. All of these VRs with specific purposes, along with their IUOC players, contribute to the system level purpose of continuing the evolution (survival) of the LCS.

Pete,

I have pointed out more than once and for various purposes of explanation and in various contexts provided by members that we, and each of us, is not the "I" that we think ourselves to be, at least not in total. Rather we are each an IUOC that is part of the LCS and as such are in Union, The One Consciousness as AUM, in its present state of development. As an IUOC, we are a digital mind, a general purpose 'computer' which functions as noted as part of AUM which is like the mother and model of all cloud computing systems, interconnected by the RWW. That networked and vast distributed computer system developed consciousness, all as per Tom Campbell's model. It arose by means which have been observed on a smaller, lesser scale here in PMR and referred to as emergent complexity through self organization; that is, a natural development that is part of the nature of Reality and observed in many instances.

We further experience ourselves as IUOCs as avatars in first, continuously and primary the VR of NPMR. There we are the collecting point of integrated developments that we produce here in PMR as our local avatar and which we, and you, experience as ourselves. In the LCS as part of AUM, we are general purpose with no 'personal' thoughts or memory. The relevant thoughts and memory are AUM's, not ours. We are there lost in the One Consciousness of AUM, with no individual awareness of what is going on there.

When a local memory, local in that it applies to PMR or to NPMR, are added to a data stream representing our experience in whichever, PMR or NPMR, we integrate that memory with that data stream and experience ourselves as 'us' as in PMR or NPMR, dependent upon which data stream and memory we are working with at a given delta t instant of the LCS. So 'in', that is experiencing, PMR or NPMR, we are our IUOC integrating/computing together our appropriate memory and data stream and become, that is experience, ourselves as ourselves. With AUM's memory and data stream, we do not experience ourselves but instead we form a small part of AUM and produce its experience of itself.

AUM created the NPMRs and later the PMRs to provide itself with further experience not available to itself as only AUM. Also with the purpose of improving the QOC of itself as AUM by improving the QOC of each individual IUOC. NPMR is the place where accumulation of long term changes is done. Since the NPMR type VR turned out to be very slow to ineffective at increasing QOC or lowering entropy, the more intense VRs of PMR type were invented and developed. The PMRs are the cutting edge of the development of QOC, although it is still a multi lifetime process with little change within a single lifetime of PMR.

So your ideas regarding our being computer like is apt. Our IUOCs were not 'designed' as PMR computers to be fully deterministic and programmable. They are instead naturally developing, just as AUM developed naturally. They have flaws and produce less than optimum outputs for a given input. The general concept of improving QOC is that we thereby produce better, more useful, output for a given input. When we are born into PMR, we then develop further 'local' flaws as bad memory from our families upbringing of us as children, our schooling adding further errors and society and our individual contacts adding a further layer of flaws keeping us away from optimum performance. If we are sufficiently capable, we can work our way through this multiple layer of added disorder and the result is that we reach our personal optimum from the past and then have the opportunity to make a further incremental improvement in our QOC in the latter part of our lives.

This is the general way that it works. Many complain that surely there must be a better way to do this, a better design. They express a desire to live in a kinder, gentler world. They complain that surely AUM could do a better design than this. However, this is the best that AUM has come up with so far and there are many more PMRs than just the one we experience here. It is however the intensity of interaction that produces the actual desired result. Living in a kinder and gentler world amounts to living in an NPMR. You actually do experience an NPMR continuously but only in part of your total experience. So this is the model, Tom Campbell's picture of how that reality works, at least in very short form.

Ted
